1119: Political Food Activism

Can political activism bring social justice to food?

Lady Justice holds a scale to weigh relative merits, and wears a blindfold to maintain impartiality.

Lady Social Justice, should someone care to craft of statue of her, would most likely be carrying an axe and be sporting an angry scowl, as per Carry Nation.

When it comes to the social justice of food, some, like Professor Julie Guthman, point to the fact that consumers have done a lot to improve food quality by voting with their dollars. Their voting brought fresh organic food to our front doors.

But for one reason or another, the voting did not bring social justice to the food of all. So Guthman, along with many others, suggest a new food activism is required to make things right.

Their new food activism leads us to ask…

Can political activism bring social justice to food?
