Along the Food Chain with Michael Olson…

1110: Life On The Farm Stories

Independence Day Open Mic

What is your story of life on the farm?

Michael Olson’s First Law of the Food Chain: Agriculture is the foundation upon which we build all our sand castles.

The United States is a free and independent nation because its citizens take care of themselves and each other.

Much of this ability was learned on the farm by previous generations and carried into the city by succeeding generations.

How long this ability can be maintained in the city is a question open to debate.

We look with trepidation to those in Venezuela, who gave up their ability to grow their own food for their government’s promise of free food, only to see their government run out of other people’s money.

To remain free and independent, we must maintain the ability to take care of ourselves, and each other. Lessons learned on the farm can help us maintain that ability, if we remember them. And so we pause to celebrate our independence with the question…

What is your story of life on the farm?
